The difficulty of blog writing

Maintaining a blog does not usually come easy, most of us in the blog space need to work really hard to maintain our blogs outside of our regular work, and with the need for regular and interesting content updates, the odd blog/website design change, replying to comments, and managing your online persona in general – all while attempting to win one of the categories in the next Blog awards – Suddenly having a blog may seem more work than it is worth.

For some (including me) blog writing is not our main talent, words do not seem to flow as easily as it does for those that place beautiful prose on the web with little to no effort.

Suggested writing inabilities aside, even if you have the most wonderful and interesting stories to share; should you forget to post on your blog one too many times (the biggest bloggers sin I am guilty of) you will watch it die a slow and often painful Internet interest withdrawal death. Should you allow this this fatal blog sickness to pass, reviving your blog to its former glory will be one of the most difficult online things you may ever do.

What I am doing to repent my blogging sins

The final result? Unsuccessful blog that will remain obscurity or Successful blog revival – I will investigate, and hopefully find, the root cause within myself and my daily/general habits that lead me down the path of the “once every three month post” blogging style my own blog is now following. A studied choice which will offer me one of the following result options:

  1. Should I keep this blog and maintain it properly (an all round improvement) OR
  2. Permanently archive my blog (maintaining my current “Odd occasion and blue moon posting” habits) OR
  3. Remove my blog entirely – let Twitter be my blog

Some travel news

Tom is at it again. My good friend is taking his wife and two young daughters overseas. Permanently!

I’m not sure if the UK would be my first choice if I needed to choose a different country as home, but everyone to his own.

He (Tom) has decided to document the process of getting the documents, to the flying over, to the actual experience of adjusting to a new country. So in aid of that he has made a blog, with accompanying Podcast.

Only one post so far, but he has been away from his PC for the past week.

His “Cultureshock” blog can be found here

Website and Off-line Life updates

After many months of telling myself that I must complete the new theme and blog (so it is more rounded and cohesive) I have finally got my local web server running again to do the development.

Give me a few months and i think it will be nice and complete – to my standards anyway.

In other news:
I have managed to purchase the diamond. This diamond is one I really like and that I think will fit perfectly into the band design I have in mind for my girlfriend.
My girlfriend has been with me for the better part of two years now and I am fairly confident she will say yes. As she has very traditional parents, I have done the “ask the parents permission” part already – even though I don’t really believe in it. At least they are happy to have me as a future son-in-law.

So by the time my personal website and blog is complete, I should be officially engaged (if everything goes well)

In still other news:
My little sister, and my Mom are packing to go overseas (USA and UK) for a few weeks – Lucky sods – I miss traveling around the world, i miss it so much I actually called my friend in Florida (Tampa) just to say “Hi”
It was a fun, even if the phone bill is going to be rather heavy this month end.

A Friends Blog

One of my more technical minded friends has decided that having his own website, complete with blog and podcast would be a nice functional thing to have.

I am in the process of developing his website, while he keeps himself busy updating his wordpress powered blog and podcast.

Check it out… it may be just the cast you were looking for

My first blog post (revisited)

After much searching and trawling through Google results, I finally decided that none of the blog utilities, tools and full blog applications meets my requirements for my personal website.

This means I need to actually develop my own blog system. This is good news, it just means I am going to take much longer getting this website (or the blog section of the site) complete.

I have an optimistic outlook, I think I will have this blog completed the the middle of February 2018.

Now if you would excuse me, I have a blog to create

[UPDATE 19/12/2008: This post was made when I didn’t trust tools like WordPress yet – and I still had enough free time on my hands to develop my own PHP based blogging solution. It kept me going for a few months before I went web quiet – when I finally returned to blogging WordPress was the only reasonable choice.]
